The Czech Easter traditions, or <em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">Velikonoce<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>, are equal parts charming, confusing, and hilariously unexpected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s just say\u2014there are whips, shots of homemade booze, and drowning straw ladies involved. Intrigued? Because <em>tradition!<\/em> According to folklore, the whipping ensures health, youth, and fertility for the year ahead. (Thanks, I guess?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">In return, the women hand over decorated eggs (<em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">kraslice<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>), sweets, or, if the whipper is lucky, shots of plum brandy (<em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">slivovice<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>). What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While it&#8217;s meant to be lighthearted and symbolic, the tradition has become controversial. Some Czech women have unfortunately had negative or even uncomfortable experiences with it. Personally, I\u2019ve never experienced anything violent, but not everyone\u2019s been so lucky \ud83d\ude14<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udd5a 2. <em>Kraslice<\/em> \u2013 Egg Decorating Like a Pro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-47029d52 alignfull uagb-is-root-container\"><div class=\"uagb-container-inner-blocks-wrap\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-2912b219\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">Some Czech women spend days (sometimes weeks!) crafting stunning<strong> <em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">kraslice<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>\u2014Easter eggs decorated with wax patterns, natural dyes, and enough patience to impress Michelangelo. Let\u2019s Drown a Goddess<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To say goodbye to winter, some villages still take part in the <em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">Vyn\u00e1\u0161en\u00ed Morany<\/mark><\/strong><\/em> ritual. They make an effigy of <em>Morana<\/em>, the Slavic goddess of death and winter, and dramatically toss her into a river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s like a mix between a pagan funeral and a public pool party, and honestly? Wear New Clothes or Regret It<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s an old belief that if you don\u2019t wear something new on Easter Monday, a lamb will poop on you.
