But in Czech, there’s an art to it. We don’t just say, “Oh, this isn’t great.” No, we fully commit. Whether it’s the unpredictable weather, long lines at the post office, or just life in general, we have the perfect phrases to express our frustrations. So, let’s dive into some classic Czech complaints that will make you sound like a true local (and help you vent your daily struggles in style).

1. To si snad děláš srandu! (You’ve got to be kidding me!)

This is your go-to phrase when life throws something utterly ridiculous your way. Late bus? To si snad děláš srandu! Price of beer just went up? To si snad děláš srandu! Your friend cancels plans last minute? You know what to say.

💡 Pro tip: Say this with an exasperated sigh and a dramatic hand gesture for full Czech effect. (But not like … 🤌🏻 We aren’t Italians ;))

Lucky for you, I covered some of these in my latest YouTube Short—so if you haven’t watched it yet, to si snad děláš srandu!

Play

How to Complain in Czech Like a Pro! 🇨🇿😤

2. Počasí je nanic. (The weather sucks.)

No Czech conversation is complete without at least one complaint about the weather. Rain in the morning, sunshine at noon, and snow by evening? Classic. Just shake your head and mutter Počasí je nanic. Bonus points if you follow it up with a deep sigh and a longing look out the window.

Nanic is a very useful little word, it means “bad/good for nothing”.

3.
